Why it Makes Sense to Target Longtail Keywords First

Whether you’re launching a brand new site or building momentum for an existing site, to be competitive in the marketplace you have a lot of network effects working against you. More often than not, your competition has years of conversion data, an older trusted site, tons of content, and thousands of organic inbound links. Trying to beat them for the most potent high-value “single word” keywords is a long shot at best and you will likely fail. Longtail keywords are usually a lot easier to rank for. If you can pick off mid-tier phrases and rank at the top of the search results then you can build a revenue stream from them, which can be reinvested to further buy market share and distribution.

Adding a Coupon to your Google Places listing will help improve your “action taken” click count and your bottom-line (profit) as well. When a potential customer sees that your business listing includes a coupon, it tends to up your listing position and CTR.

Citations are defined as “mentions” of your business name and address on other web pages, even if there is no link to your website. Think of citations in the same way you do backlinks: they are like getting VOTES for your website. Google has introduced another algorithm update this month and many webmasters have seen a huge drop in traffic from Google for keyword phrases that are three or more keywords long so called “long tail keywords“.

How does this affect your website?

In an online forum, webmaster discussed their experience with Google latest ranking algorithm update that has been given the name Mayday. If your website gets fewer visitors from Google, the update could be the reason for that.

What exactly has happened?

Many webmasters have seen a huge drop in traffic from Google for keyword phrases that are three or more keywords long (so called “long tail keywords”). Some webmasters have lost 90% of their traffic from Google because they cannot be found anymore for the long keyword phrases. The ranking drop did not happen to spammers. Among the affected websites was a 13 year old site with a Google PageRank of 7 and 400,000 backlinks.

Why did it happen?

It seems that this is not a penalty but a change in Google’s ranking algorithm. Google might now be able to index longer keyword phrases more accurately. There’s a new Google patent that deals with this topic.

Identifying phrases requires a lot of computing power and a lot of memory. A webmaster explained it in the discussion:

“For example, on the assumption that any five words could constitute a phrase, and that a large corpus would have at least 200,000 unique terms, there would be approximately 3.2.times.10.sup.26 possible phrases. Clearly more than any existing system could store or otherwise programmatically manipulate.”

It seems that Google guessed the best pages for long keyword phrases until recently based on other signals and keywords on the indexed pages. The new Google patent indicates that Google now has the computing power to index longer keyword phrases on web pages instead of guessing them.

Do you have to change your web pages now?

If you experienced a decline in traffic to your website from Google you might have to change your web pages. For example, if you want to be found for “personal injury lawyer london” then these words should appear in that order on your website.

If you use other variations such as “london lawyer personal injury” then you’ll probably get listings for that variation but not for other word combination’s. If you want to know how to get Top 10 Rankings on Google for the keywords of your choice, analyze the web page that you want to see in Google’s search results with IBP’s Top 10 Optimizer.

Web Traffic Flow is a new site that says it guarantees more CONVERTING web visitors and online advertising with very little effort or cost. So I decided to put it to the test… since I really don’t like to buy web traffic.

My first impression was the site looks professional and clean, with an attractive look and feel.  It is easy to read and understand. Joining the site was easy and painless-they do offer 2 upgrade options but they are not required to gain the benefits.

The Members Area is very well laid out and intuitive. I could figure out what to do after only a few minutes and was able to get up and running in less than 5 minutes. Inside the site, you create links and ads-the links you simply enter any URL links you use into the generator and it transforms them into “Web Traffic Flow” links.

You create ads for anything you want to promote using the Web Traffic Flow Ad Generator, which is very easy to use.  You can create as many links and as many ads as you like.  And they are organized in a logical way-links are displayed in the order you create them but also your 5 most recent links appear on the main page for quick reference. Also, since the link generator is the tool you’ll use most, it is also right at the top of the main page when you login.  Very smart! I like free web traffic.

After you’ve created at least 1 link and 1 ad you can start to increase your website traffic. Just use and promote the new Web Traffic Flow link instead of the original source link you had. Every time the Web Traffic Flow link is clicked, the page loads followed by a cool slide-up ad window at the bottom. It displays an ad PLUS an image with your affiliate link that goes back to Web Traffic Flow. So when anyone clicks the Web Traffic Flow image they see the site, and if they signup they become your referral. It’s a great viral feature because you can build referrals without even trying to just by using the site.

Now every time the ad window displays (and your Web Traffic Flow links get clicked) you earn credits that get YOUR ad displayed in the ad windows when other members’ links get clicked. So the more clicks, the more times your ads get displayed.

And this works virally-meaning as you make referrals into Web Traffic Flow (either by promoting it or just using it and visitors click the Web Traffic Flow image on the ad window to join) you also earn ad credits on THEIR link clicks. And this works up to 5 levels deep.  So you can create a massive amount of free ad views and web traffic by referring others to Web Traffic Flow also.

Before I signed on with Web Traffic Flow, I looked at the sites that joined before me. I figured, this was a good litmus test, because if there were successful guys using the system, who was I prejudge its merits. As you will see, there are some major guys using Web Traffic Flow.

I didn’t get to test the full effect of a big down line yet (I just got the tool) but I can tell you the rest of the site works exactly as stated – my links got clicked, I earned credits, and my ads got displayed.  Web Traffic Flow even tracked my results so I know how many clicks and how many ad displays.  That was an impressive unadvertised extra feature.

There is one more benefit which might be the best of them all – downline emailing.  You can email your downline with offers, promotions, or whatever you like, and here is where Web Traffic Flow really shines.  They took time to make the emailing often enough that it’s valuable as a user, but no so often that it’s a burden to your down line.  But the best part about this feature (and actually the credit earning too) is that it tells you exactly how long until you can mail again.  Now THAT’s cool.

Overall I have to say I am impressed with Web Traffic Flow.  It is simple yet powerful, and delivers on its promises. I highly recommend anyone who wants to increase traffic and advertising versus having to buy web site traffic to explore this more.
